Bowie In Space?

So while the entire blogrolls of FTW are clogged with people posting and reposting the latest Dark Eldar rumors and such, the latest batch from BoLS featured a character named Duke Sliscus the Serpent and described him as "Bowie in space,"  This is the first thing I thought of when I read that:



But it all still leaves several questions.  Can Bowie settle down on one army list or is he always making ch-ch-ch-changes?  Is his Fantasy army Goblins?  Does modern love get him to submit his lists on time?  The list goes on.  What else would Bowie do in the grim darkness of the far future, besides re-invent himself every decade?

New Rumors!

As far as I know, I’m the first one on this story. My source at GW gave me a few moist, juicy tidbits cooked to perfection au jus. Here they are- and no, I will not reimburse you for drooling all over your keyboards.

Necrons: Are getting a total look/fluff redesign. Their legs will be replaced with a cylindrical base, covered in spheres. Fluff wise, instead of attacking in silence will shout, “Eradicate!” From what I heard they won’t be able to go to upper levels of ruins, but instead have the ability to destroy terrain in order to come to grips with the occupants. Later, they may be given the ability to go upstairs but this was not confirmed.

Plastic Thunderhawk: Has made a secret cameo appearance in every White Dwarf for the past year. Go back and look for it. It’s another classic case of GW hiding stuff in plain sight.

Dark Eldar: Will get updated. We promise. Totally.

Daemon Hunters/Witch Hunters: These armies will only be updated when enough players read Dostoevsky’s The Brothers Karamazov, specifically the Parable of the Grand Inquisitor, and write a 20 page paper on why they should be updated in relation to the parable. Otherwise they’ll make up some fluff about how the whole Inquisition and Sisters of Battle went off to look for the Squats. Get to it!

Dark Angels: Will have any remaining fluff and choices nerfed out of them. Tactical squad special weapons? Gone. Types of Land Raider? Only one now. The codex comes with a pre-set list for every points value. Any players found playing another codex with their Dark Angels army will have their models confiscated.

Some Blood Angels Hilarity

When I heard about the Magna-Grapple thing I thought of two things: the first is illustrated below and the second was, "hey, they stole that ability from the old-school Tyranids!"

Secondly, here's a closeup of some new Blood Angels artwork! I hear they're also getting a "sparkle" ability, where you have to roll a leadership test to not swoon at their carefully tousled hair. Perhaps they're trying to reach out to more female gamers.

There were whispers of Space Wolves getting a minor update to give them the "No-Shirt" option but wasn't able to hear what in-game effect it had.

Sharing the Hobby With Your Kid

Happy Father's Day everyone! I've seen quite a few other blogs talk about how they share the Warhammer hobby with their children and thought I'd join in the fun today. Especially since my one year old girl has discovered how much fun Daddy's toys can be!



Since it's summer break and I'm a teacher I thought I would be able to get a lot of painting done. Not so! If I try to work while she's awake, she comes straight to my table with a big smile on her face and begs for me to pick her up. I can't say no for two reasons; firstly how can anyone say no to someone so cute and secondly she shakes the table violently until I do. Even when I'm not there she sometimes wants to play with them.



She has learned about how to stand on her tippy-toes thanks to Warhammer since that's the only way she can reach what's on the table. The learning begins already! I have my own desk in the back room but there's better light on kitchen table, plus I don't like feeling isolated from the family while I paint, and also I have no room to work on my desk since it is covered in bitz and half-sawed apart models. This exposes me to the curiosity of my child.



While she's up on my lap she loves to rearrange all of my paints. She picks them up one at a time, looks at it and then sets it down. She does the same for the models but she has a crushing grip so I move those out of her reach. She can surprise me though and strikes like a cobra to grab models that I thought were out of her reach. I have to handle these hostage situations delicately, if I try to take it away she reacts by biting the object she's holding and crushing with her vice-like hands.



She probably knows that there's stuff inside the paint bottles, but she hasn't been able to open them. I have trouble opening them too, especially the Citadel Washes. I must remember to thank GW for the built-in childproofing.



Hopefully this fascination continues years down the road and I can play some games with her. Games like Warhammer, Magic and D&D can bolster math, reading and critical thinking skills. Furthermore, it will be a fun activity that we can share together. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to pry a Terminator out of her hands.

40k Rumors: Plastic Thunderhawk Confirmed




Wow the news has been coming in fast on this one! Sources say that it will include over 80 different plastic doors, covering all the chapters that anyone has ever heard of! It will also include parts to make either the transport or gunship variants (including two Rhinos and a Landraider). From what we've heard it will be priced at $97.85 USD and is expected this summer as part of the eighth wave of Space Marines.

It's finally here! We've been waiting so long for this and to see it become reality puts a tear in my eye.

I find that when I paint the hair, I prefer to do natural highlighting and layering, using a bit of Vidal Sassoon mixed into my paint.

That picture is of the Forgeworld one. I counted the bombs and they are the same as the Forgeworld one.
